View Full Version : Windows Vista Media Center Issue
17-03-2009, 02:55 PM
Hello, While trying to setup the Xbox with the Media center extender, It comes up on my computer 'setting up extender' then as soon as it says "downloading" on the Xbox screen it completely freezes my Pc forcing me to restart. I've heard of similar issues with XP but with the Xbox crashing and not the PC.
Any help is appreciated.
I am not familiar with setting up an XBox to a Vista machine but you might want to take a look at Microsoft's guide on how to do this: Windows Vista: Connect your Xbox 360 to Windows Media Center (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/mediacenter/xbox360.mspx)
Please let us know how you get on...

Thanks for the reply Mike.
I've followed the guide, But once it gets to the 3rd step "searching for extender" my Computer freezes.
My firewall is configured correctly, and I've done all that I am supposed to. It has me baffled
Are you connecting wireless or using an Ethernet cable?
Apparently there have been a number of similar reports of Vista crashing when using incompatible wireless networks cards or old (or even new) drivers. Try using a cable if not already...

Right - forget the exterder route (no jokes please :D) - its not needed
go into your network settings and it will show the 360 as a device - just right click on it and enable and you will get a green tick on the xbox and voila - I once spent ages messing with the setup the exterder options - its a joke thats not needed
I will post an exact step by step later as I am not at home
