  • Deleting email attachments from My Documents

    Hello

    Not sure if anyone has come across this one before but I get sent attachments on my emails. Usually just stupid videos etc. These always download into 'my documents' file. This was never a problem until recently when I was trying to clear a load of them away. If I try to right click on the attachement and then delete my pc becomes non responsive and then closes the page and returns to the front start up screen. This is becoming more and more frustrating as I believe it is these attachements that are slowing my PC down.

    I have a Packard Bell PC which is running windows XP and also has AOL as my internet provider.

    Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi daisy;

    This might be a classic case of spyware/adware/crapware etc. or even viruses and trojans. Software you installed might have been bundled with other software that might be causing problems. File sharing for instance. Or you could have been infected any number of ways. It's hard to say off hand.

    I do know that AOL in the U.S.A. offers Mcafee antivirus as a free add-on and AOL has other tools as well. I don't care for AOL and won't use them but I have to ask if you do use them.

    Antivirus-update and scan.
    You might also try housecall from trend-micro for a free scan/removal for pests.
    Spybot S&D and AdAware-update after installing then scan.
    I don't use XP but ewido /AVG might be good for a free program.

    If you have not already done so I suggest installing, updating, scanning and removing items with these tools. This is usually the most logical first steps.

    Antivirus program. Use the one of your choice.

    Spybot S&D

    AdAware

    ewido /AVG

    I suggest trying these steps first. Post back and let us know.
