    Windows 11 Resources

The machine compatibility issue seems to be quite a mess - I have now read that even a Dell 7010 can run W11 and some people are claiming they have already installed it without any issues. Not sure how they acheve this but maybe we need a thread dedicated to this issue - i.e installing W11 on...

[Solved] Networked printer not available to some PCs

That worked perfectly - the printer connected no problem at all now. That's so great so many many thanks. There is no way I could have done that without your help and nothing else on the web seemed to fit the bill either. Is this something MS will fix sometime soon?

    Windows 11 Resources

Although my Dell 7040 is not mentioned on the "approved list" for W11 and the MS checker say my PC is not compatible, - I have read W11 will run on my machine with the Intel Core i7 6700 @ 3.40GHz processor. However if I wanted to update my machine to W11 will it have to be a clean install or...

[Solved] Networked printer not available to some PCs

Thanks again for the info. The printer does not seem to have any drivers installed as it is an older model and the drivers came from an HP disk. Alas I cannot see an update KB5006670 the affected machines as the one I am testing on is a brand new install of the OS and yet still fails! Maybe I...

[Solved] Networked printer not available to some PCs

Thanks for your reply - The printer is accessible by other PCs and works fine when accessed from those machines - but they all run W10 Pro! whereas the problem PCs all run W10 Home. so wondered if that was the issue! Wireless does not seem to be an issue either as all the pcs have been...

[Solved] Networked printer not available to some PCs

I think I have ruled out the possibility of and language issue in the OS as I have now done a clean install of a UK version of W10 home on one of the laptops yet it still won't connect to the printer. I can "see" the printer from the laptop and all the shared items from other PCs on my network...

    MY PC icon keeps moving

Hi Ken - I tried that but don't want the icons to auto organise so turned that feature off again. Also I have tried changing the icon size but the "My PC" shortcut icon still keeps moving to a free space on the left after every shutdown. None of the other icons move apart from one other which...

[Solved] Optiplex flashes Dell splash screen twice when booting

Thanks Ken - I had thought of doing that but then decided to read more about the bios setup and eventually found there is a toggle between UFEI with or without legacy ROMs - turning that off seems to have sorted the problem and the machine does now boot a lot faster and with only once splash...

[Solved] Optiplex flashes Dell splash screen twice when booting

The bios is set to UFEI and the M2 drive is the only once it has in the boot sequence. If I press F12 and select a one time boot on the M2 drive, the Dell splash logo only comes up once. If booting from cold then it still comes up twice with a small pause between!

[Solved] Optiplex flashes Dell splash screen twice when booting

I have a Dell 7040 but when it is booting, the splash screen with the Dell logo comes up twice before W10 loads which I thought was a bit odd. The latest bios was installed when I first got the PC. The pc now has a 1tb M2 drive on the motherboard where the OS resides plus two mechanical sata...

    Help with storage

If you don't expect to increase your likely storage you can simply keep everything on the SSD then back it all up to the HDD. However I had a machine with almost the same spec as yours and found the SSD soon became full so I put in a M2 drive of 1tb and transferred to OS to that - now I have the...

    BSOD keeps happening

Maybe I'm tempting fate but since my last post there has been no repeat of the BSoD!!! The last thing I did was install the Dell SSD driver and this seems to have worked. Also I have now installed a new 1TB M2 drive and all is working fine. For 2 weeks the machine was on 24-7 with no problems...
