Hi
Im having trouble connecting to AOL after a full system recovery. I have a Compaq desktop running XP with a Voyager 105 modem.
The modem has been installed okay and is working i just keep getting the error message "DNS server unreachable 24-01-08-033"
Ive taken down the Firewall and allowed access to everything but still no joy.
Any help gratefully received as the AOL helpline is next to useless!

I've had 2 custromers with a similar problem where they could not connect
after reinstalling WinXP. They did not get the exact same error message as you
but according to the link in the previous post, it appears to be related to
your password.

It was also a password issue with my 2 customers and the solution was to
reset the password, however, AOL did not make it easy or even possible
to reset the password unless their tech support was contacted.

One of my customers had a FREE AOL account and was not able to reach
a human for tech support to reset his password and he ended up quitting AOL.

My other customer was paying for AOL and able to get a human for tech
support who reset the password and that solved her problem.

Good luck solving your problem, but this might be a good time
to consider an alternative Internet provider.

Just to clarify something about this particular problem which appears to be related to
AOL passwords, I believe it has to do with AOL's security system, where they will
lock you out of your own account if they detect something has changed on your end.

I don't claim to know exactly what criteria they use to determine something has
changed on your end but I've seen it in my workshop where WinXP is reinstalled,
AOL reinstalled and it logs the user in with no problems and then I take it to the
customer's place and now AOL locks the user out, requiring a password reset.

Hi ,
Thanks for your help. I spoke to AOL yesterday and they said the CDRom i had for AOL 9 was out of date. They are sending me another one so ill let you know if it solves the problem.
Apart from that they are useless. Id like to switch ISP but as you all probably know its an absolute nightmare trying to cancel an AOL contract and i cant afford to pay 2 ISPs at the same time whilst waiting to sort out a cancellation.
Thanks again for all your advice
