Getting a blue screen of death ? Reboot cycle ?

Boot from the xp disk and select recovery console.

At the dos screen -

fixboot

fixmbr

chkdsk c: /p

If you dual boot, dont use fixboot or fixmbr.

This has fixed quite a few pc's after a power failure and a few that had viruses removed.

In such a case, I usually first try Last Known Good Configuration. Regardless of whether or not that works, I go one step further and run a chkdsk /r.

It's amazing what file problems a chkdsk can fix.

I have never had much luck with system restore, and when it has gone wrong for me its gone badly wrong.

I did fix a pc yesterday with the chkdsk trick (it was stuck in a reboot cycle) , when it booted back up it anounced that the rollback had compleated !
