Explorer wont run!!!

Hi 2 ya all, just wondering if any 1 can help me with this.........
Im running windows xp home lol earlier today i turned off the power to my pc @ the wall b4 it shut down properly!!!
and now when ive turned it back on theres no icons on my desktop so i brought up task manger and run typed explorer and it just flashs up and goes again...i cant think of anything else it could be!!!
can any1 help...all ideas welcome lol

Either you corrupted some system files, such as the explorer executable or your computer has been coincidentally infected with some form of malware.

The quickest and safest solution is to perform what's called an "in-place reinstallation" of Windows XP, also known as a repair install. Microsoft's article is here: How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP

You will need your Windows XP CD, a couple of hours and some patience. Most of your files will be kept; please carefully follow the instructions on that page.
