floppy diskette seek failure

when booting up on my dell3100 i get the message floppy diskette seek failure press f1 to continue,also my cd drive seems to have gone as the disc slide wont open.

It seems the Dell 3100 does not have a floppy drive so you would need to go into the bios and disable it even though it's not there.
Mine does exactly the same if there's a power cut.

It sounds like your optical drive may be on it's way out but try uninstalling it in Device Manager then rebooting and let windows find it again.
