Hi, i've just inherited a Dell PC which has had absolutely everything wiped from it. when i switch it on i just get a message 'missing operating system'.

I have a dell disk with 'operating system, reinstallation CD windows xp professional inc service pack 1' but when i put it in the PC it doesn't do anything. it sounds like it starts reading the disk but i cant see anything on screen.

Does anyone know what i should do???? help very much appreciated as i haven't got a clue...thanks

There may be a problem with your cd drive, but if you mentioned that 'it sounds' like it is reading the disk so maybe that is not the case, you must insert the restore cd (installation disk) and restart your pc for it to boot-up properly.

I hope this helps.
