Welcome to Free PC Help Bekki.

Are you saying that instead of the desktop, you're getting a black screen?

What is the make and model of the pc, and do you have an XP cd?

Well in today's World of Malware I'd suspect that first.

Just be calm and we'll work with you to get you back up and running as soon as possible.

If you can get on the Internet and download stuff I would download an AntiMalware product and update it and then scan your system, if nothing found that's great, otherwise if found it should clean it up.

Please go here and download their FREE version of SUPERAntiSpyware and install it and let us know if it found anything.
SUPERAntispyware Home Page

If that does not correct the problem let us know and we'll start looking at other possible issues and solutions, though this often corrects most similar issues and doesn't cost anything except a little bit of time.

Hi bekki;
AdvancedSetup asked if you can get on the internet. Can you?
If so follow his advice.
