My little sister is having problem's with her i-Mac. Unfortunately i don't know the spec's so here is a description of what happened and what it is doing now.

A few day's ago she was using it fine until the electric went off (ran out) since then when she tries to switch it on it does not boot. It simply switches to a black screen with the following message on it:

"/etc/master.passwd: No such file or directory
-sh-2.05b#"

Anyone got any idea's what has happened and if it's possible to rectify it?
Thank's in advance for any help you can offer.

Try booting to the install CD - this is done by inserting the CD and holding the 'C' key while booting. It should start from the Install CD. Look for the Disk Utility program and open it. Click on your hard drive in the left hand side pane and choose Repair Permissions.
