Laptop Hard drive

Hi All,

My laptop has broken it's quite old so not worth repairing, however I need to get access to all the photos stored on the hard drive. I have fitted the hard drive into a usb caddy connected to my desktop, whilst the desktop recognises the external drive when I try to access the folders they appear as a file. So what was "my documents" folder now appears as a my document file, with no file extention. Any ideas how to correct the issue and access the pictures.

Laptop was running Windows 98SE desktop running XP version 2.

Any help wouild be appricated.
