You're welcome.

That site is a scam as you pay for drivers that you can get for free. In addition, no hardware driver should be updated unless there is a specific need to do so. So what that site calls "bad", is just a scare tactic to get your money.

Your drivers can be found on the link I posted. They can also be found on the motherboards site (you just need to know the model number of the motherboard).

I downloaded a Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM) Windows driver yesterday which got rid of the yellow question mark in device mgr. When I put a CD into my drive media player will play but still no sound. My PC is a custom build and the motherboard is a Fujitsu Siemens with a AMD athlon 64 processor. How do I find out the additional info you suggest?

Thanks

Will music that is stored on your computer play?

Any other devices in Device Manager that have a question mark will need to be installed with the correct driver.

The model number of the mobo can be found on the mobo itself. For example, take a look at the first column here which shows model numbers:

http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/boards/Motherboards/Motherboards.htm

You can also download Everest which should show the model number of the mobo:

(Ignore the spyware removal download)

That link didn't show what I wanted it to.

Go to the link and type in K8V for the model, and you'll see all the different versions of the K8V.

Get the fourth one from the top if you're running XP.

It looks like this:

WinXP

Version 5.12.01.3663 2003/09/10 update

Description SoundMAX Audio Driver version 5.12.01.3663 WHQL driver for Windows 98SE,ME,2000,XP

File Size 18.92 (MBytes)

Save the file to your desktop and right click on it to extract it. Open the new icon that is created on the desktop and double click on the setup.exe file.

What else in device manager needs a driver?

Having used the K8V boards before, I would also like to ask if your mainboard drivers are installed and up-to-date, as I've had sound issues before that have been solved through that method.

Also, be sure that you have the proper audio playback device selected, as well as simple things like if your speakers are hooked up correctly, turned on, and if they work at all.

Sometimes you may find that your playback device can be changed without your knowing when the system boots up without the proper driver installed.

Also, in the BIOS, is the onboard sound Enabled?

Still no sound guys. I downloaded both suggestions and ran the setup install shield icon (didn't see a file called setup.exe??). The VIA file had 3 installer icons - platform, setup and ISSCRIPT. I tried them all. The speakers are fine as I tested them on another PC. One person suggested checking BIOS but I couldn't find an "Onboard Sound Enabled". Not sure what else to do.

Thanks
