Microsoft word back up files

When I save any Word documents it is making an automatic back up of the document. I don't know why this is happening and I would appreciate it if anyone could give me some advice on how I can stop it as my recycle bin is getting full now.

Can you tell me what version of Word you are running please.


Ok go into Word and then under Tools choose Options.

Then choose the Save Tab and un-tick "Always create backup copy"
