Hi, all.

This is my first (or second) post, so I hope it works.

I have an NForce 3a mobo with an amd sempron 3000 on Xp pro SP. 2. My son has pinched my faster Intel powered machine & I want to increase the oomph. I`ve got 1.5 gb memory & the bios is dated about the time of the Ark. Nobody seems to know if I can put a better cpu in &, if so, would it be worth while in terms of increased speed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, deaddog.

That's a difficult question.

It's a decent board but does not have some of the modern motherboard features such as PCI-X or DDR2 memory

Overall I don't think that I would spend the money for a better CPU if I'm not happy with the current speed. I would try to buy a newer MB / CPU myself, but that's just me as I would want the newer faster features.

You may be happy with just a faster CPU

Thanks for that.

I`ll look for another mobo & cpu. I`ve got a Pent. D 830. What board would support that & would I need to upgrade the powere supply from 300w?
