Hi, OK, what else have you looked at, I know it is the obvious thing but have you checked that the speakers are not muted, and volume sliders are at the top, by looking in the sound controls?

Are you using the laptops own speakers or have you tried either external speakers or headphones in the speaker out jack socket?

Click "Start" then "Run", type or copy and paste=

devmgmt.msc

Click the + next to "Sound, Video, and game controllers" are there any red or yellow marks? If so what are they for.

Also, does your laptop have a volume control on the side of the case as my Toshiba does? It is so easy to accidentally turn that down to zero when removing it from, or putting it back in its case.

Let us know what make and model your laptop is if it isn't that simple, then I can look up specs for what other things to look for.

Hi, when I answered here, unfortunately I hadn't seen the thread you started here in XP related forum.

http://www.freepchelp.co.uk/threads/13354-audio-no-sound

Jelly bean has given you some useful information and links to follow up. Please continue there and once you have got that code 10 error sorted, either Jelly Bean or myself, (or other member) can carry on from there.

I will lock this thread as it is pointless and time consuming trying to follow two threads about the same subject.

Nev.
