Windows XP Professional SP2

When cold booting Windows does not get past "Windows is Starting Up". Have checked the hard drive via IDE Drive Diagnostics and the hard drive appears sound (PASSED). Have attempted, well, just about everything except the right cure. Have attempted booting in Safe Mode as well as from Floppy using XPSp1 OS disk. Nahda! Before I call in the "GeekSquad", any suggestions? Prior to this fiasco I did get a screen stating a system dump or something... powered completely down... waited... and booted up or have been at least attempting to ever since.

Either you corrupted some system files or your computer has been coincidentally infected with some form of malware.

The quickest and safest solution is to perform what's called an "in-place reinstallation" of Windows XP, also known as a repair install. Microsoft's article is here: How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP

You will need your Windows XP CD, a couple of hours and some patience. Most of your files will be kept; please carefully follow the instructions on that page.
