I am running XP service pack 2. I had a virus befor xmas and a friend of a friend that knows more about pc's than me, got it all working again for me. He installed NOD32 anti-virus system for me which seems to be working great.
The problem I am having is that when I play games i.e. 1 hr free trials from bigfishgames and also games I have paid for and downloaded, my pc just switches of completely in the middle of them. There is no warning, or error message. Its also completely random as to when it does this, i could play for 5 mins or 5 hours, it just depends what mood the pc seems to be in as to how long it lets me play!!! Once its switched off i have to unplug it from the mains and plug it back in before it will boot up again. Sometimes it re-boots normally, other times I have to select safe mode and it runs through a big list of drivers etc on a black screen before it starts up properly.
Hope this gives someone enough info to maybe figure out the cause.
helpppppppp pleaseeeeeee its driving me nuts!!!! lol

Welcome to Free PC Help sbabeee.

Unfortunetely, a random shutdown is difficult to diagnose as it could be caused by just about anything, including overheating.

Please post the make and model of your computer.

Do you know what kind of video card you have? If so, update the drivers from the manufacturer's site. If not, please run this program and post the results:

If you feel comfortable opening up your PC, using a can of compressed air to blow out any excess dust may help you out - your problem sounds very similar to a cooling problem I used to have several years ago.

Excessive dust buildup inside the PC can cause your cooling fans to not spin properly.

The most important area to keep clean is the cpu (processor) heat sink. Have a look at this picture of a cpu fan and heatsink:

http://www.pctechguide.com/images/tutorials/MBoard/Heatsink4.jpg

Your's will look like that. Now take a look through the fan and you will see the top of the heatsink. That area should be relatively free of major dust build up. If it isn't, carefully take a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment and see what you can get out. You may have to loosen the dust clogs by using a toothbrush first. I use my girlfriends for such :)

Unfortunately sbabeeee Seth was lying, he doesn't have a girlfriend, no one likes him never mind love him and even Santa thumbs his nose at him.
He alone, quite alone in the world I do believe apart from an old blue furball that talks to him very occasionally.

:D :D

Wolfey's right.

That toothbrush actually belongs to my one and only friend. Unfortunately, only I can see or speak with that friend :)

I'm just kidding though, as I do have many friends. So what if others calls these "friends" computers? lol

Once again, welcome to FPCH help SB. We're all pretty cool 'round here.
