Possible to standby with PC still active?

I should post this in here aswell

Well basicly I want to put my PC on standby and still be connected to the net via my USB modem (it turns off and closes my connection) if I am able to do this it means I can use my Nintendo DS to brose the web from another room with the wireless dongle (as I dont haeva router or wireless)

Please help I hope its possible as im feed up of being at my PC to browse!

Why does the pc have to be in standby in order for you to use the internet on the ds? My son connects for online play all the time through our axxis point and I am working on the computer. Do you have some strange rule at your home that you can have only one device on at a time?
