Printer to laptop

Hello all,

I've printed off a number of my files with my HP 2540 printer. Now I need to reverse the technique & restore some back to my laptop.
I've tried Googling it, but lost the plot very quickly. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C850 1LQ Apparently I'm using 8.1 Sounds very technical, but I really haven't a clue. 😟

Cheers,

Hi bj,

I am confused.
If you have printed off files from your laptop they will still be stored on the laptop.
They don't disappear because you have printed them.

Or am I reading this incorrectly ?

Hi Ken, You are dead right in what you say, but, there's always a but. My idea was to speed up the laptop as I also transferred hundreds of photo's as well, they went onto an external hard drive. Had I done the same with the files instead of copying them, I wouldn't now have a problem, but having printed them off, I er! deleted them, hence my dilemma.
Cheers.

Now I understand.
If you are lucky - there is a Recycle Bin on your Desktop.

Click on this and scroll down to see if any of your deleted files are there.
If they are....
Hold CTRL down and click on each file in turn to highlight
Still holding CTRL down ....... right click ........select "Restore"

If there are lots of Files you can restore them in batches.

This will put the files back in their original location.

Good thinking Batman. But, again the dreaded, but, I deleted the files thinking it would speed up the responses, likewise with the Recycle Bin. Every so often I empty that as well. I've checked the bin & it's as clean as the proverbial whistle.

Cheers.

Hi bj,

Download Recuva from here - click here

Select the "Free" option.

It may end up in your "Downloads" folder.
Locate the icon and click on it to install.

Once installed click on the Recuva icon

You will see this

Select "Documents" if it is this type of file that you wish to recover.

You will then be asked to select the location where the files were ..... if you are unsure select "I am unsure" for the location.

See what Recuva comes up with :)

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the info. I followed your text to install which went ok, but not always the way you describe. After the install & recovery was completed, I tried my docs, but they were all still blank pages. I'd clicked free download, but then couldn't get passed the "pay for" icons.
I'll delete the download, if I can & try again. The recycle bin is still showing empty.

Cheers.

Hi Ken, thanks again for your input. I followed the new link, as soon as your email arrived, at 14.41. Downloaded etc & started the process. Buffering started with the progress showing at the bottom of the screen. The % count slooooowly crept up & arrived at 100% almost 6hrs later. 445472 files recovered, then clicking on "install files" or words to that effect, took me to "sign in" & then to the payment page of app £200.
At that point I lost interest. My Number 1 Son gave me a gentle rollicking when I told him the problem & that I'd emptied the recycle bin. He's making enquiries to try & find solution. I'll update you if & when that happens.

Cheers Bryn

Sorry bj
The version of Recuva that I have is Free - but I have had it for a while.
I didn't realise that there would be a fee to pay otherwise I wouldn't have recommended it.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi Ken,

I've managed to scan the docs etc. I went to the HP site & found I needed to install an HP app for the scanner. Not a clue what I was doing, but I got there in the end, quietly chuffed with myself, I just went for it.
But, there we go again with the buts, as you'll know, the docs become PDF's so I can't edit them without signing up to a costly widget, shame that, but at least I've got the docs back on the printer.

Thanks for your help.

Hi bj,

You may, at some point, need to edit one or two of your documents.
If they are in PDF format this isn't possible BUT there is software available to convert PDF files in order for you to edit them.
The software is OCR [Optical Character Recognition] software.

I did a search and found these options that are supposed to be free. click here

It may be worth down;oading one of them and giving it a try.

In the past I tried OCR software and it wasn't 100% successful [ words not recognised etc ]
But if it is free you may as well give it a try :)

West Yorkshire,
I remember my lad explaining the OCR set-up that I could use when I was walker leader for the group & following text as well as a map, (not much fun trying to read a map when it's persisting down,) easier reading text in that situation.
There was a lot of problems, because the copying wasn't straight forward, ie some text not continuous, but interspersed with an outlined section of the map interposed.
For my situation with the docs, the OCR is worth another shot. I remember some words were a nightmare.

Cheers.

Some OCR software will be better than others.
The free stuff is worth a try if you have the time to play with it. :)
