RAM Upgrade Problem

Hi there - hope someone can help.

I recently tried to upgrade the memory in my HP desktop from 1gb to 2gb. Currently the PC has 2x512mb cards in there so I decided to replace one of them with a 1gb card to give me 1.5.

However, once i'd fitted the extra memory the PC would not boot up properly. It either turned on but without booting at all or, now and again, it got as far as the setup screen (where you go into BIOS etc) but then hung there.

Any advice guys? As soon as I put the old memory back in it was fine.

Either the ram is incompatible with the motherboard, or the ram is defective.

Try the other stick that you purchased. You can also check compatibility from this site:
