my computer wont start up it says windows has shut down to protect my files my computer is windows xp. i switched my computer of by the mains could this be the cause? i have tryed to start up on safe mode but this doesnt work either.

hi Rena, I have moved your post to a more correct forum for it.
You say you turned it off at the mains? was windows still running at that time or had you shut it down from "Start> Turn off computer" first?

Hi

It is best to shut your computer down by way of the start button, a hard shut down is not recommended unless you are experiencing problems and have no other choice. See link below on how to perform a repair installation, see if that helps.

thanks for your help i will try what you suggested. Here is the technical information which came up on the blue screen. Stop: 0x000000ED (0x84F7D508, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, if you have anymore suggestion they would be most appreciated
