Hi,

i've been having a couple of problems with my internet. Whenever i open internet explorer i get the message "internet explorer cannot display the webpage".

i have checked my connection to the internet and everything seems to be working fine, i even contacted my internet service provider and they could not find what the problem was.

so i basically cannot connect to the internet on that computer however i can with my laptop and another computer we have in the house. So i'm not sure if there is something blocking the IE page from connecting to the internet.

anyway any help would be appreicated.

thanks

Hi Susie

Welcome to FPCH

What version of IE do you have and what security software do you have running?

I have IE 7 and norton internet security 2009. However after having the problems with IE i tried to stop norton from running and ended up uninstalling it. So now i just have spybot as i require internet access to download norton again. i just really dont have a clue what to do, so thanks for any help./

Hi Susie.

Try this:

1.Open Internet Explorer 7
2.Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
3.Click the Advanced tab.
4.Under Reset Internet Explorer Settings, click Reset.

If that doesn't help, one of us will get you to run a ping test and/or an IP check. Either way, we'll find the problem.

Hi Susie,

Please download the Home Free Version of SuperAntiSpyware from SUPERAntiSpyware.com - AntiAdware, AntiSpyware, AntiMalware!. Run the program then go into it's Preferences>Repairs. Highlight "Repair Broken Internet Connection (Repair Winsock LSP Chain" then click on Perform Repair.

Restart the computer when prompted and test the internet.

If that doesn't help, we can try a ping test and/or check if the internet is ok in Safe Mode With Networking.

Also like to add that Norton is (in)famous for breaking internet connections, even after uninstalling.

I would recommend that you now run the Norton removal tool to ensure all traces have gone, then try accessing the internet again.

Go here, go to step 3 to download the tool, copy it over to your poorly computer, run it, reboot and try again.

Save your Norton 2009 Product Key, then download and run the Norton Removal Tool

Hi Tootech,

thanks for your advice, but i'm just not sure how i can copy the dowload tool over to my poorly computer with no internet access, is there anything you can suggest i do? because what i've now noticed is that i cant even log onto msn messenger. I'm not sure if that was a problem that happened the same time i lost inetnet access or a recent thing.

Use the computer you're on now, then save the file to a cd or a USB memory stick. Then you can install Super on the problem computer.

Can you write it to CD on another pc and then use the CD on your poorly PC?

Another way would be to use a USB memory stick to transfer it from one machine to another.

Hey Seth :):):)

Do you think another would be the Winsock Fix?
Yes they're similar, but the SAS fix seems to be more thorough and is compatible with all versions of IE7. Plus, it would be a good idea for Susie to have SAS installed as an on demand scanner.

....back in a couple of hours.

Sorry for the delay, i finally got both the norton download tool and the super antispyware to run on my computer, however unfortunately neither worked.
Is there anything else i can try?

thanks

Hi Suzy - is this a recent issue or is this a new computer that you are trying?
The fact that the other pcs are working and can connect to the internet, would say to me that there is a problem with how you connect to the internet and not IE7 - do you connect wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable?
if its wireless - is there any way that you could move the computer near the router so that you can plug an Ethernet cable in and rule that out - if it works then its the wireless adapter on your pc and then we can talk you through steps for fixing that

Hi Dalo Harkin,

The computer is actually 5/6 yrs old, so this is quite a recent issue, the computer is connected to the internet via an ethernet cable and in fact when i turn on the computer it tells me that i am connected to the internet in the bottom right on the taskbar/tray but just cant seem to get access to the internet through IE7 or msn messenger or anything else that requires internet access. So i thought this couls be down to something blocking me from gaining access. Hope this helps and any support will be much appreicated.

thanks
