Hi everyone.

I was wondering if you could possibly help a new member out?

My computer decided to shut down on me the other day after running perfectly with no errors for some time. I tried to re-boot in which the system obliged but after around 5secs it shut down again. My initial thought was that the Processor may have over heated or something had shorted out, so i proceeded to strip the computer down, checking the processor to make sure that there was a good clean contact between the processor and the fan using the usual compound mix. I then rebooted the computer but received nothing apart from a slight twitch from the CPU fan.

I've been wanting to upgrade for some time so thought this was a good excuse to go and spend some well earn cash. I purchased the following.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ (2.8GHz) Socket AM2 2MB L2 Cache (2x1MB)
MSI K9N6SGM-V GeForce 6100 Socket AM2
2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC

After installing all I proceeded to boot up the computer but with no success. Again just the small fan glitch and signal reading on the monitor.
Starting to get a little frustrated now and thinking that it may be the power supply (standard 450w). I'll hold my hands up and say that I am no top computer whizz and would really appreciate some advice.

If it is the power supply. Can you please advise on a suitable power supply for my new set up.

Hi SYKES

Welcome to Free PC Help.

It does sound like the power supply may be faulty. You can try and borrow one to see if it works then.

Make sure all connections are correct and secure.

I think your correct as i'm getting absolutely nothing from the Power supply now. No signal or fan movement.

Can you suggest what Wattage i should be looking at with new processor?

Will 450W be enough?

cheers
