is it possible to use or have two anti virus programs on your pc to use? in otherwords i have mcafee..can i also install for example avg or whichever free antivirus as a back up to catch what mcafee doesn't or will there be too much conflict and cause crashes galore...? or jam ups... thanks.

It is never advisable to run two antivirus programs. As you suspect it could cause conflicts.
