You might be able to access the Recycle Bin from Safe Mode:

Keep tapping F8 as the computer starts and you'll see the Safe Mode option.

You can access it from a DOS console inside windows I'm pretty sure. DOS ignores almost everything from the Registry which is probably why it's being blocked.

CD \RECYCLER
DIR /AH
CD {that long name you should now see}

Then do an
ATTRIB *.*

This will show you what is still in there. If your data is there then you just need to make some fixes in Windows to probably remove a policy stopping you.

Let us know if that's the case and we can help you with that.

Hi Mark.

You can access a command prompt to try Advanced Setup's suggestion by going to Start, run, typing in cmd and pressing ok.

Try this as an alternative to Safe Mode:

To perform a diagnostic startup, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
2. On the General tab, click Diagnostic Startup, and then click OK.
3. Restart your computer.

Are you able to get online at all, or not just download? Did Norton find any malware? If so, we may need you to run a better scanner and/or post a log from a program called HijackThis.

Hi Seth,
Have tried what you said but still no good.
when i updated norton i did a full scan and a few things were found and resolved, i can get online altho its very slow,, i can no longer get on msn or open the recycle bin, when i do go online to try and download things to resolve the issues it just stops me from downloading anything, i can however download things on other user accounts on our pc and its doing my head in now lol (really do need them files i deleted tho)

The log shows that the computer is still infected. It also shows that you have a large number of needless programs that are automatically starting when your computer does. Both of those need to be addressed.

I need to look at the log some more, but I also need to leave. I'll be back in a couple of hours with further instructions.
