Hi Everyone.
I have an old xp pc which I got going the other day, just to see if it would work really.
I know that I had some music and videos on there when it went into retirement, but
now there is nothing showing up.
I did have to change the battery and insert the correct date and time but still nothing there.
is it possible to take it back in time to a very earlier date or does anyone know of a good free
file recovery software for XP??

Many thanks in advance.

Bringe.

Hi Bringe,

If you can boot up the XP machine - take a look in the Recycle Bin 1652198932266.png which should be on the Desktop,
your deleted files may be there.

Hi KenB.
Hope you are well.
I looked at the Recycle Bin, It is totally empty.
Can files just dissapear if the pc is not used for a few years, and the battery was dead??

Short answer - no.
The CMOS battery maintains the system time and settings.
It is not linked to the hard drive at all.

Do you have any saved files on that machine at all ?
Take a look here:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents

Did it have a virus before you stopped using it ?

Have you tried a Windows search for music files (e.g. *.MP3)?

It may be that the music you are looking for is in a hidden/misplaced folder. This happens fairly frequently with the Windows library feature (not in XP).
